World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) – One Health AMR Campaign

Makueni County, Kenya | 2024 Awareness & Behavior Change Campaign

Makueni County 2024 AMR Awareness Campaign

A One Health antimicrobial resistance awareness campaign targeting human, animal, and environmental sectors through community outreach, media engagement, youth innovation, and antimicrobial stewardship education.

Campaign Background

Antimicrobial resistance in Makueni County is driven by low awareness and widespread inappropriate use of antibiotics in humans, animals, and community settings.

Prior to this intervention, AMS messaging was fragmented, with limited structured outreach to high-risk groups such as agro-vets, boda boda riders, youth, and informal traders.

The WAAW campaign integrated One Health messaging across multiple platforms including radio, social media, healthcare facilities, and community engagement networks.
