National AMR/HAI Surveillance Leadership Engagement Meeting

Ministry of Health & Global Fund – 17 Pilot Counties (Kenya)

Kenya Nov 2025 County Health Leadership Engagement

A national capacity-building and sensitisation initiative aimed at equipping county health leaders and AMR/HAI focal persons across 17 pilot counties with the tools, knowledge, and frameworks required to implement effective surveillance systems in Kenya’s devolved health structure.

Project Background

Implementation of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Hospital-Associated Infection (HAI) surveillance systems in Kenya has been challenged by limited awareness and technical capacity among county health leaders and focal persons.

In a devolved health system, inconsistent knowledge and weak coordination mechanisms have slowed effective surveillance adoption across counties.

This engagement meeting, supported by the Ministry of Health and the Global Fund, was designed to bridge this gap through structured training, tool dissemination, and stakeholder alignment across 17 pilot counties.
