Strengthening antimicrobial consumption (AMC) and antimicrobial use (AMU) surveillance systems at Machakos Level 5 Hospital to support evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship and national AMR reporting frameworks under the Fleming Fund MAAP I regional grant.
Project Background
There has been limited systematic data on antimicrobial consumption (AMC) and antimicrobial use (AMU) patterns in Kenyan public hospitals, making it difficult to support evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship decisions.
This data gap has also weakened national and regional AMR reporting systems, limiting the ability to track antimicrobial usage trends and resistance drivers effectively.
The Fleming Fund MAAP I Regional Grant was introduced to address this gap through structured AMC and AMU surveillance at sentinel sites, including Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
